Our Commitment

CoolassMike / Michael Bowers is committed to ensuring that this website is accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We believe that everyone deserves equal access to information and the ability to engage with our services without barriers.

Standards We Follow

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including those who are blind or have low vision, are deaf or hard of hearing, have motor disabilities, or have cognitive disabilities.

Accessibility Features

This site includes the following accessibility features:

  • Keyboard navigation — All interactive elements (navigation, buttons, links, and forms) are accessible via keyboard alone.
  • Skip link — A "Skip to main content" link is provided at the top of every page to bypass repetitive navigation.
  • Semantic HTML — We use proper heading hierarchy, landmark roles (banner, main, contentinfo, nav), and meaningful HTML elements throughout.
  • ARIA labels — Interactive elements that require additional context include descriptive aria-label and aria-expanded attributes.
  • Alt text — Images include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images use empty alt attributes to be ignored by assistive technologies.
  • Color contrast — Text and interactive elements are designed to meet minimum contrast ratios against their backgrounds.
  • Responsive design — The site adapts to different screen sizes and supports zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
  • Light/dark mode — A theme toggle is available in the navigation to switch between dark (default) and light modes for improved readability based on personal preference.
  • Focus indicators — Keyboard focus is visually indicated on all interactive elements.

Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, some areas of the site may have limitations:

  • Third-party embedded content (such as the GigSalad booking widget or Google Calendar links) is controlled by those external services and may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. We encourage those providers to meet accessibility standards.
  • Some older images in our press and gallery sections may have limited or generic alt text. We are working to improve these descriptions.

Testing & Evaluation

We evaluate accessibility through a combination of:

  • Automated testing tools
  • Manual keyboard and screen reader testing
  • Review against WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria
